Go: Yungaburra's youth hostel, On the Wallaby is
utterly superb. The common area feels like a mountain hut with
rough-edged wood furnishings, and a wood-burning stove, the bathrooms
and showers are sided with stone and wood, and the bedrooms are
clean and fresh. There's barbeque, laundry facilities, and a
self-serve kitchen with a tree frog couple, Trevor and Naomi.

Planet: The excellent On the Wallaby at 34
Eacham Road, is a
small backpackers' hostel with double and twin rooms upstairs and
good living areas downstairs. There's a free pick-up bus from Cairns and the
nightly cost includes breakfast, or you can camp in the backyard.
This hostel also offers an overnight Tablelands trip.
